It Was So Nice to Wake Up in Rwanda

March 1, 2012 (Happy Birthday, Bethany!)

It was so great to wake up in Rwanda this morning after about 24 hours enroute on planes.  The birds and the tropical weather began to melt away the jet lag.

I am at the hotal restaurant  having breakfast:  tea, fresh fruit and toast.  I brought my own little bag of shredded wheat to munch on.  I had a choice of a room with hot water and a room with wifi.  I chose wifi.  So the shower this morning really woke me up.

I am staying the Dianne Foseey room (Gorillas in the Mist fame).  It is a simple room with a life-sized gorilla in it.  For my protection, I presume.

The temperature this morning is perfect.  Overcast but pleasant.

Rev. Charles Nsengiyumva, director of COP, was at the airport last evening to meet me, along with his brother-in-law, John, our chauffeur.  Charles and I meet this morning to begin working on our agenda.

It is so nice to be here again.  I look forward to all the activities and seeing some of the children.  I won't be interviewing them all on this trip since a staff and sponsor team did that already this year, but I will enjoy seeing some of them and catching up with them.  I will be spending most of the time working with Charles on adminstrative duties.

The native dress, the ladies carrying things on their heads, the weather, the smells, the tropical fruit, the car horns, the people on the roads at all hours of the day, the chatter of people everywhere - East Africa at its best is on display this morning in Rwanda.

Thanks for joining me this first day.  Stick around.  It will be a good trip.
